SANDERS CUP YACHTING
WIN FOR WELLINGTON BOAT. (By TrfegrapTi—T’rasa AfwoclfttJon.) DUNEDIN, Feb. 23. The Wellington boat, Betty, won the deciding race in the Sanders Cup contest this morning after being hardpressed by the Canterbury contender, Colleen. The race was sailed over a triangular course in hard, south-westerly weather.
The Southland boat Rona filled third place, the Otago defender, Eileen, was fourth, and the Auckland challenger, Avalon, fifth position. The last three boats were at no time dangerous. The Betty secured three firsts, a second, a fourth and a fifth in the contest. She won the final race by 58 seconds. The Colleen was runner-up with two firsts, two seconds and two fourths. The Auckland Sanders Cup challenger Avalon has been sold to Mr P. Hunter, iPort Chalmers. Mr Hunter at one time owned the cup winner lona, and lie was the prime mover in the building of tlie Eileen.
