The weather to-day was line after 10 o’clock, when the heavy rain ceased and a howling westerly made things most unpleasant, blowing into the partially demolished buildings, lbe sea is calm, but indications suggest a storm, which, however, appears to be passing to the south. REFITG'EEK FOE FJLTHAM. Owing to n. very groat, reluctance on the part of refugees accommodated at the showgrounds in Palmerston North to leave the camp it has not been possible for the authorities to ascertain definitely how many will be sent to Eltham. One hundred have been ordered to be ready for transfer to Eltliam today, but. no information was available up till noon. The Mayor (Mr I. J. Bridget') visited j Palmerston North difring the week-end I and interviewed the camp commandant

(Brigadier White), but was unable to finalise matters. The refugees appear to be well satisfied to remain in camp until they are able to go to tlieir own homes in Napier or Hastings. Complete arrangements have been made at Eltham for their reception on arrival.. Cars have been arranged for transport to the various people, who are accommodating the visitors. REFUGEES REACH PATJEA. By train last evening a number of refugees reached Patea and were taken in charge by the local committee and arrangements made for tlieir board and lodging with residents who had offered help. It is understood that funds are available to help if, and when, required. This will be the first call made ou Patea for help with refugees from the stricken area. Complete arrangements had been made with a view to control of the work.

DRUIDS’ EUCHRE PARTY. A large crowd attended the Druids’ recent euchre and dance in the AVinter Show Buildings in aid of the earthquake relief fund. The takings at the door amounted to £2O, and as the expenses arc very low the fund will benefit very materially. During the supper interval the chairman (Mr Grant) thanked Mr Wills and I,is orchestra for tlieir generous action in giving their services free, the Winter Show Committee for use of the liall, Mr Dixon for loan of a piano and the Power Board for the lighting, and Airs Evans for the supper arrangements. The dance arrangements were in the capable hands of iMr Preyne and Mr Reece,-’the euchre being in charge of Messrs Craig and Billows, supervised by Messrs Adams and N. J. Grant. Tlie cuclire tourney resulted: Ladies, Mrs Calmont 1, Mrs Wills 2, Airs Horton 3, Mrs Chadwick 4, Airs Phillips 5; gentlemen, Prichard 1, Warner 2, Robertson 3, Tippett 4, Cannon 5. Assisting the secretary were -Bros. Ooombes, Hall, Palwards, Townely, and Eorke. The committee also thank tlie various donors of prizes.
