• the bit; pond.” OPERA HOUSE “TALKIES.” In “The Big Pond,” Chevalier sings two new songs, “You Brought a. New Kind of Love to Me” and “Livm m the Sunlight—Lovin’ in the Moonlight.” Both of these numbers are particularly tuneful, and suit the Chevalier 'temperament to perfection. In support of Chevalier and Mis.s Colbert is a good cast headed by George Barbier, Marion Ballou, Frank Lyon and Elaine Koch,. a charming child actress. Hobart Henley directed The Bit* Pond,” which will show at the Opera House finally to-night. There is something about this exuberant purveyor of gav songs and witty dialogue ‘ that just lifts him miles_ above bis fellow-stars of the films, ho matter what the role he essays, he always gives it his best, and lifts it up to the Grandest heights of amusement value. Also showing finally to-night is the film of the Napier-Hastmgs disaster, a picture that no one should miss seeing. Booking for to-night is heavy; ’phone 2713 and reserve.
OPERA HOUSE “TALKIES.” ‘ ‘MANSL AUGHTER”—TO-MOR-ROW. In “Manslaughter,” _ the Opera House feature commencing to-morrow night for a season of three nights and one matinee, Paramount has brought together three of the -biggest P?. r_ sonalities the stage has given to talking pictures. They are George Abbott, the director, Claudette Colbert and Fredric March. Each of them has contributed an excellent niece of work to the Alice Duer iMiller story, which since its first appearance in 1922 has become a best-seller novel of all time.
GRAND THEATRE “TALKIES.” Vilma Banliy .will appear under the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer banner commencing to-night at the Grand Theatre for a season of two nights, in a “Lady to Love.” Miss Bankv makes her alltalking debut in the picture. The production was directed by Victor Seastrom and. contains a noted supportingcast which includes Robert Ames, recently seen opposite Gloria 1 Swanson in “The Trespasser,” Edward G. Robinson, Lloyd Ingraham. George Davis, Gum Chin, Richard Carle, Anderson Lawler and Henry Annetta. A special supporting programme will be screened.
