HAWERA POSITIONS.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —-With surprise 1 read in tonight's . “Star” oi the appointment of a Wellington lady to the position of librarian. Were there no applications from Stewart Island or Three Kings? Of course we all know that'such august bodies as the Library Committee and our Power Board cannot be expected to bestow positions under their jurisdiction on Hawera residents. We have no schools here, to teach our young people anything, and neither have we any unemployed. You see, positions such as these are so vastly remunerative and require such brain power that no Hawera resident could be found capable of filling them. No, this scribe did not apply for either, fifty years in Hawera has shown me that work in plenty can be found —so long as no payment is asked. When a remunerative position is offered “No Hawera resident need apply.”—l am, etc.. URIAH HEEP.
