Mr J. Franklin, of Auckland who has been spending a fortnight with bis people in Hawera, will leave again tomorrow for his home.

Mr. T. A. Winks, of Hawera. left by to-day’s express train for Wellington, where he is to attend meetings of the N.D.A. and the Dairy Export Board.

Friends of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Holmes, of Watino Road, Pihama, will have learnt with much sorrow of the accidentia! death of their son, Charles Henry Louis, which occurred at Te Kuiti yesterday. He was well known all over South Taranaki where he lived for many years at Pihama. The funeral will take place to-morrow afternoon at Pihama.

Commander Nelson Clover, who handed over the command’ of the naval base and of H.M.S. Philomel to his successor, Commander E. L. Berthon, last week, is expected in Wellington to-day from Auckland on his return to England via San Francisco. The death is announced from Ottawa of the Right Rev. Michael FranciSj Fallon, Roman Catholic Bishop of London, Ontario. He was a Canadian, born at Kingston in 1867, and was ordained in 1894. He was for some time Professor of English Literature at Ottawa University, then in charge of a parish at Buffalo, and was consecrated' Bishop of London in 1910. ilr E. H. Hollands, engineer and general manager of the Hutt Valley Electric Power Board, accompanied by Mrs Hollands, were visitors to Opunake on Sunday, and were the guests of Mr and Mrs H. E. Lodge. The death occurred yesterday morning of Mavis, the 17-year-old daughter of Mr and Mrs W. H. Carey, Lower Stuart Road, Eltham. The youngest o± a family of eight, the late Miss Carey had her primary school education at the Eltham Convent, later attending the Wanganui Convent for a time. For some months before her death she had been ailjfig, and although her demise was not Unexpected, it is deeply felt by a largo number of relatives and personal friends, and sincere sorrow is expressed at the loss of a bright and promising life. The late Miss Carey studied music and had excelled in this subject. Requiem Mass will be celebrates,! to-morrow at the Eltham Catholic Church, from which the funeral will leave for the Rawhitiroa Cemetcrv.
