AUTUMN FLOWER SHOW. (From Our Own Correspondent). The annual .autumn flower show conducted under the auspioes of the Presbyterian Ladies’ Guild was opened yesterday afternoon, by Rev. Millar, of Manaia, in the (presence of a good at-, tendance of the public. Owing, perhaps, to the many calls tP be met this year, the entries were not as numerous as in other years. It certainly cannot be put down, altogether to the weather, for on the whotc the quality of the blooms was excellent, the judge, Mr. \Y. -Moss, of Stratford, commending especially the dalilias and 1 the gladioli which were indeed superb. Another exhibit of outstanding merit was the champion a particiil.iiiy fine specimen of lilium auratum, exhibited by Mrs. D. Mourie. The most striking feature, however, was as usual 3 the fact that blooms oi such quality can be grown in Opu ialcc, with its much maligned breezes to contend with. However, patience, skill and shelter can work wonders. Several stalls under the capable management of ladies of the guild and other willing workers did brisk business. Those in charge of the various departments were as follow: Sewing stall, Mesdames J. Johnston. A. Lusk and B. Mann; “Rookery Nook,” the sweets and refreshment stall, Mesdames A. W. Lambie, F. Davey and Miss B. Lambie; cake and produ«j stall, Mesdames G. Olouston and! H. Frazer. The young folk were catered for by a very realistic Baker s Oven,” constructed by Mrs. D. Fraser which was in charge of Mrs. Byans and “baker,” Eileen Fraser. Mesdames C. D. Field. T. J. Coxhead. D. A. Hughes, and J. Templeton conducted the Awa--1 tuna Ladies’ Guild’s stall, while Mis. S. Campbell, assisted by Mesdames C. Clare, R. Ritchie, T. C. Watt, and B. Malcolm, dispensed afternoon tea and supper in the evening. The annexe was Irtid. out in n midget-golf course constructed by Messrs. J. Cfiouston, H. Davie and K, Murray, which assisted to swell the funds. The show was concluded m. the evening when, despite the most unpleasant weather conditions, there was quite a good attendance. During the evening the Opunake String Orchestra contributed a musical programme. The results of competitions are as follow: Weight of cake (16lb) Mr. S. Boyd (correct guess), peanuts in bottle (chocolates), Mrs. T. Quin and Mr. J. Clouston guessed the correct number 94. The judges and officials were: Section 1 and! 2, judge, Mr. W. Moss (Stratford); stewards, Misses Mourie and Shepherd. Section three: Judge, Mrs. Clements; steward, -Miss E. Lusk. Section four and five (cookery): Judge, Mrs. A. W, Lambie; steward, Miss Crocker. Section four (needlework) and six: Judge, Mrs. T. N. Watt; steward, Miss L. Pettigrew. Section seven: Judoe Mr. W. Moss; steward, Miss Coxhead. Section eight: Judge, Miss Pettigrew; steward, Miss Margaret Bvars. EARTHQUAKE RELIEF.

A meeting of the Egmoiit County Centra l Committee was held’ at Opunake last alight, there being present; -Messrs A. Brennan (chainnan), G. W. Rlogers, J. N. Stephenson, E. G. Smith, P. Dalrynvple, C. A. Smith, Rev. Roberts, Dr. T. N. Watt, and Mr H.. E. Lodge (secretary. Apologies were received fox- the jabsence of Messrs W. Green, J. Tosland, W. Sbeat, Haselltine and E. Whittle. It was reported that official collection lists had been forwarded to Rahotn, P.ungarehu, and Te Kiri mill. A-letter of thanks was received from Major Stevens, Palmerston North, for supplies of food and clothing, etc., forwai’ded. i

It was reported that the sum of £lB4 15s 4d (actual cash in hand) had been collected. Messrs Brennan (chairman) and Lodge (secretary) were authorised to operate the committee’s bank account. It was decided that there should be no disbursement of funds •without the approval of the full committee, including the country representatives. The appointment of an auditor was held over in the meantime. It was j-eported that authorised collecting boxes had been forwarded to various institutions. Mr P. Dalrymple reported that Mr J. Remvick, of Haw-era, was willing to assist in any concerts arranged by the committee. Mr E. G. Smith reipoi-ted that Air E. A. Collins will be calling a meeting this week at Te Kiri to form a committee; also that the Te Kiri people wished to hold a dance. It was decided that the matter of bolding -moiithly marts be referred to the ladies’ committee for favourable consideration. It was resolved that offers, to’ organise entertainment be now accepted, it being felt that due deference bad now been pnhl to the feelings of those afflicted. A sub-committee comprising Messrs J. N. Stephenson, P. Dalrymple and Rev. Roberts was appointed to oonfexwith the ladies’ committee with the object of bringing about better cooperation between the two committees. Rev. Roberts gave notice of motion that in future a quorum of six be sufficient for the transaction of business.
