HAWJERA CLUB SUCCESSES.

CENTRE BANNER AND CUP

Bearing evidence of the success this season of the Haivera Swimming Club , representatives in Taranaki provincial contests, two handsome trophies aie at ; present on exhibition in the High Street show windows of Mr. J. C. ltobb’s premises, the centre banner denoting the aggregate points championship of the centre and the Urey Cup signifying victory in the Taranaki clubs’ challenge relay. Presented to the Taranaki swimming centre by the New Plymouth and Frtzroy dlubs, the banner was placed in competition for the first time this season for award to the club recording . the highest number of points at tbo annual championship of the centre, ft is an attractive trophy executed in black and gold colouring and is the work of the designer. In winning the banner at the championships at New Plymouth last Wednesday the Hawera team compiled 81 points compared with 28 scored by the New Plymouth club as the runner-up. In this season’s contest for the Grey Cup the Hawera team consisting of B. Bassett, T. Jobson A. Spraggj and S. Anderson, was successful, fliei occasion being the first on which victory in the race has been achieved by the Hawera Club. The same quartette also won the flying squadron event at the centre championships last week. The cup is a. challenge trophy for annual competition among dlubs of Taranaki and was originally presented to the New Pjly- ! mouth Club by Mr. G.
