The State Astronomer (Mr Ourlewis) discussing the New Zealand earthquake, mentions! ia. curious apparent connection between New Zealand and Cooes Island and says that a ’quake was recorded at 2 o’clock yesterday morning, the seismograph swinging three .inches. Tl(e oscillations indicated that the location was the Cocos area. The recent big shakes in New Zealand were followed by disturbances at Cocos.
