RADIATOR MASCOTS
A word of warning is uttered m a recent; issue of the “Autocar” regarding the use of radiator mascots, which have become increasingly popular of late. Certain of the mascots, states that authority, might easily, in the event of an accident, cause considerable damage to an individual ahead of the car. Sharp-pointed devices should not be allowed to project appreciably in front of the filler cap, tor, if a pedestrian or a cyclist is' bit, by the front of a car, tne chances are that he will be thrown against the forward edge of the radiator, and any sharp projection may (penetrate (us body. Recognition of this fact need not seriously hamper the activities of the mascot manufacturers, for some of the existing designs would ba just as effective if they were so mounted on a bracket that the main -part of the devices lay above and behind the filler cap, the point coming level with its centre or forward edge. The only objection to this mounting is that the filler cap may have to be partially turned before- the bonnet can be opened.
