NORMANBY.

TOWN BOARD MEETING. (From Our Own Correspondent). A meeting of the Normanby Town Board was held on Tuesday night, Mr. F. T. Peach (chairman) presiding. Accounts to a to tail of £75 os lOd were passed for payment. A settler’s application for repairs to an approach to a hill in Weld’ Street was referred to the works committee. A clean-up day was decided upon, the matter to be finalised by the works committee.

' A settler who is using portion of a road for grazing purposes is to be charged the same fee as charged those at present leasing portions of roads and streets.

DOMAIN. The chairman reported that under the unemployment relief scheme No. 5, three men were at present employed., on the formation of tennis courts in the Domain. Acaounts to the total of £2 2s were passed for payment. CEMETERY. The chairman reported that a new signboard notifying the various charges, etc*., had been prepared for erection. The cemetery at present was in excellent order. Accounts for £3 3s were passed for payment. EARTHQUAKE RELIEF. The following is the list of donations to date to the earthquake relief fund in the Town Board’s office.

euchre party. On Tuesday night a euchre party under the auspices of the Normanby Town Board was held to assist in providing funds for earthquake relief. Despite the many other functions being held simultaneously there was a good attendance fourteen tables being occupied. Prizes were donated by Air. A. Powell, Air. J. Norfolk, and Alessrs Galloway and Sons. Mr. A. AlcAsey won the men’s first prize, Air. T. E»dwin the second and Air. N. Tippett the consolation. The ladies’ first prize was won by Airs. R. A 7. Jackson, with All's. Cowie second, and the consolation went to Miss. Sylvia Tippett. The funds will he augmented by about £2 as a result of the effort.

KITCHEN TEA

On Monday night a large gathering of the friends of Miss Ivy Pars low gathered in the Normanby Town Hall to, tender her a kitchen tea on the occasion of her approaching marriage. Dancing tilled the major portion of the evening while Miss T. Gibson. Miss G. Haroourt, and Mr. A. Galloway rendered several enjoyable items. A delightful supper was dispensed by the ladies and during the interval Mr. A. Galloway, on behalf of the gathering presented Miss Parslow with a large collection of presents, with which a table on the stage was heavily laden. Mrs. McDonald on behalf of the members of St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Normanby, wished Miss Parslow all future happiness and. stated that she would he greatly missed in tire church’s activities _ as she had always been an indefatigable worker. Mr. G. Dick suitably replied on Muss Parslow’s behalf and ‘‘For They are Jolly Good Fellows” was sung. JUNIOR RED CROSS.

On Tuesday the Normanby members of the Junior Red Cross met and reported iv successful year. Miss Dora Slinger was appointed secretary for the coming year. The children handed iir the sum of £3 10s to go to the Red Cross fund for use in the earthquake relief. . A large number of parcels or gilts and clothing were forwarded to the Bed Cross through, the Normanby 'School those making the donations being Mrs. Slinger Miss Shearer, airs. Nicholson, Miss Woods, Mrs. Dawson, airs. W. Benton, and Mrs. Mcßeth. It was announced that parcels of material suitable for making up could be * forwarded to Mrs Mcßeth.

GENERAL AND PERSONAL. airs. G. Galloway- is an inmate of a private hospital, Hawera, following an operation. Friends will be pleased 1 to learn that she is making good progress. Mils. H. Hooper lias undergone an operation in. the Hawera Hospital. air. P. Kellett is still in hospital, but is reported to be improving. airs. Stewart, Otorolianga, is spending a few days with her mother, airs. J. aieuli. at Normanby. a i iss C. Miller, new Plymouth, is spending a few days in Normanby. Al/iss H. Lloyd left on Monday for a holiday visit to Hamilton. air. G. Dick. Waipawa, spent a. few davs liolidav in Normanby. air. C. -J. Preston, with a party comprising aiessrs. F‘. Rae, aY. It. O. Spooner and C. Davies left on Saturday for a fortnight’s fishing at- Tokaanu. That wireless soon pays for itself if used in the right direction is the contention of a local farmer. This gentle-

man has had a wireless set installed in his miming shed and states positively that since the installation the cows have become quite used to it and appear to look forward to the music. Further it is claimed, the milk returns have been quite 2501 b per day higher, and the cause is attributed to greater contentment during the milking because of the soothing effect of the music. /

Learn to swim week its being fully taken advantage of by the local school children and on Wednesday quite a large number visited the baths in Hawera. Conveyances were provided by Messrs. Linn Bros, and Air. Spratt.
