A message from Aliami states that Al Caopne, in answer to a speech by Major-General Butler that lie would be deported when public opinion was sufficiently aroused, said: “The general is misinformed. He should know that the laws protect the citizen and prevent the deportation of anyone born in the country like myself. “General Butler says I am a criminal. The only charge 1 know of, or the authorities know of, is my being charged with vagrancy. I have been feeding 3(11111 persons daily in Chicago for the past six months. If this is an act of vagrancy, I want to be classed n> a vagrant. I will leave the American people to judge between General Butler and myself.”
