Grant won the toss and Vest Indies went in to hat. Vest Indies was dismissed for 99 and Australia, reached 197 for one wicket. There was some very cautious hatting before lunch. Grimmett’s first, three overs being maidens. After lunch -there was a cool change in the weather, and the conditions were more pleasant. Headley made delightful strokes to ali parts of the field off all of the bowlers. He hatted 54 minutes for 33 and hit four boundaries. The spectators wore very sorry to see him go. When the seventh wicket had fallen play was hold un for 20 minutes through a slight fall of rain. The innings ended at 3.30 mm. Ironmonger’s howling was a real triumph. 'He_ howled 20 overs, including seven maidens, and turned the balloon the true wicket. 'Hie batsmen nevertheless flattered the howling, giving a surprisingly feeble display. Woodfu'll’s 50 took" 90 minutes and Bradman’s 45 minutes, Bradman milling off fast balls in a remarkable manner, detecting his perfect eve and timing. The unfinished mudnershin added 147 runs.
