Another Liberal-Labour conference at Downing Street is believed to have resulted in an agreement on the. unemployment policy and other matters designed to keep the Government in office . Mr. Rum say MacDonald, accompanied by a number of members of Cabinet, received Mr. Lloyd George accompanied by Sir Herbert Samuel and others. It is understood that the Liberals yielded to Mr. Philip Snowden’s argument against the great development loan advocated recently by their party. The debate ,in the House' of Commons to-day arising out of the Conservative motion of censure on the Government for failing: to effect national economies, prmises to be of unusual interest. The problems of the rising east of social services, and the need for cutting! down public expenditure are rapidly becoming live issues, iu Britain. The “Times” says. "Whatever may be the result of the current financial veav. it is already certain that the legislation and administration of the Labour Government will have added over £30,000,000 L> the charges imfuoperlv met from borrowing. “While future commitment** "ill be much, heavier, national resources are mortgaged to the hilt.
