The death has occurred of the Salvation Army Commissioner 1. Unsworth, says a cable from Loudon. Mr. W. H. Alandeno, Otago, was elected president of the Institute of Architects by the council yesterday, states a Press Association message 1 from Wellington. , Mr S. E. Veitch left Hawera this morning on a business trip and will be absent for some days. “The report would be .incomplete,” said Air Laurenson, at the Hawera Pipe Band’s annual meeting last night, ‘‘ without mention of the great services rendered by our worthy secretary and drum-major, Air J. E. Nairn. The bulk of the administration work fell on Mm and this he has done with a thoroughness that has won for him the admiration and gratitude of every supporter of the band. I personally feel we are extremely fortunate in the possession of such a. zealous and enthusiastic officer.” This tribute was warmly endorsed by Mr J. E. Campbell and other speakers. They agreed that, the fine position was due' largely to Air Nairn’s zeal and thoroughness. Speakers at the Hawera Pipe Band’s annual meeting last night paid a fine tribute to the enthusiasm and vigorous wcik of the president, Air J. B. Laurenson, and assured him that his services wore greatly appreciated by all membt rs.
