GREY CUP RELAY. HAWERA TEAM’S VICTORY. The Taranaki Mile swimming championship was won. by H. St. George (Fitzroy Club) at a carnival held by the Nejw Plymouth Amateur Swimming Club at the New Plymouth Municipal baths on Saturday evening. The Grey Cup relay race was also contested and resulted! in the: Hawera team winning very decisively in the remarkably .fast time of 71 2-5 seconds, an average of 17 4-sseconds per man for each length. The Taranaki mile championship, won by H. St. George with B. Dudley second and It. Gardiner third, drew nine entries. Three, however, I. Johson,.who was to swim for Hawera in I the Grey Cup relay just afterwards, CL I H. PI uni tree, who had an injured) laiee, and N. Gardiner were scratched. The starters were K. Staunton (F), IT. St. George (F), W. Itimmington (E.E.). It. Gardiner (E'.E,.), A. Ryan (H) and R. Dudley (0).
