HA WF.R A “TALKIE” THEATRES. •ALL QUIET” AT OPERA HOUSE. At last the .motion picture of the greatest hook, “All Quiet ou the Western Front,” has been completed. Critics say it is the greatest motion picture' ever made. This wonderful Universal production of Remarque’s famous novel has required a year’s painstaking labour and expenditure of more' than £200,000. For example, miles of actual trenches had to be dug and fortified for the sweeping battle scenes. It is not only the story of the “tlier iside,” but it is the story of every army. It is the story of youth —in love with life—in love with love —laughing, sinning, repenting. “All Quiet on the 'Western Front” will open at the Opera House this evening for a season of two nights. GRAND THEATRE “TALKIES.” Songs and musical numbers, in talking pictures, should be closely knit parts ot the production itself, finding their reasons for being in the actual story and not, as is often the case in | stage musical shows, “dragged in ’ regardless of plot. at least, is the opinion of William Kernell, noted composer, who writes both lyrics and music for his songs, and who wrote the eight tuneful melodies used in the Fox Movietone talking and singing romance of Morocco and the To reign Legion, entitled “Women Everywhere,” opening to-night for a seasoil of two nights at the Grand Theatre. “Women Everywhere,” which was directed by Alexander Korda, and features J. Harold Murray and Fill Dorsay, tells the story of an American sailor, captain, owner of a tramp steamer, who accepts a cargo of arms designed for the rebellious natives of French Morocco. He is captured by the French authorities, lint saved from death by Miss .Dorsay, I who plays the part of a cafe entertainer. Murray sings four of Kernell s songs during the telling of the story, and Miss Dorsay is heard in three musical numbers. George Grosssmitli also sings a very engaging song, while the non-singing members of the cast arc Clyde Cook, who plays a ! featured role, and Rose Dione and Ralph Kellard.
