RELIABLE HAND-BRAKES
It is all very well to argue that modern four-wheel braking systems are so reliable that the brake pedal is never likely to fail to do its jot> unexpectedly, nut it must he remembered that occasions sometimes arise when a driver needs every ounce of braking power and suddenly finds that the pedal goes right 'down to the floorboards owing to the fact that he has neglected the usual adjustment. Motorists who use their cars largely in fiat districts are most likely to be faced with this emergency unless they are very careful about adjustments, because the need for a really quick pull-up seldom arises, and it is very easy to drive for several days without realising that full braking poyver is not available should it he needed. Wore good hand-brakes a universal fitting there would he much more incentive for drivers to use them occasionally as service brakes, but, as it' is, a man who has to lean forward jin his seat and grope under the faciaI board for a gimcrack lever is scarcely encouraged to do so more than he can help.
