By invitation Mr. J. E. Campbell, J honorary secretary of the unemployment committee, was present at the weekly luncheon of the Hawera Hotary Club to-day and discussed with members of the club the position as at present in Hawera. Mr. Campbell emphasised that the difficulty the committee had in providing work was becoming more acute. To-day was the first- day that no work whatever was available. Suggestions were made in the direction of taking concerted action to find work and finally it was decided to consult with the Chamber of Commerce council, which will meet to-night. The Mayor was unable to attend the luncheon. Motor kitchens, each able to supply .-,!)!) hot dinners at a cost of 6d each, have been started by a woman’s society of Cologne.
