EMPIRE FARMERS

LAST YEAR'S VISIT. MESSAGE OF GOODWILL. An interesting letter has been received bv Mr. Ei. J. Betts, president of the provincial executive of the Farmers’ Union, from Mr. and Mrs. S. R. Whitley, of Reading, England. It will be remembered that Mr. Whitley was leader of the party of British farmers which toured New Zealand last year. ,

The writer said that just a year had passed' since' Mr. Betts took such an active part in welcoming the British party, and he sent a message of thanks and special goodwill to him and to all who co-operated with him. He said that several of the party had met the Prime Minister, Mr. Forbes, and also the New Zealand farmers who had toured England, and it was delightful to meet them all and to renew the bonds of friendship so happily begun* in New Zealand. He hoped that these might be drawn closer and closer. He added that it had been an unfeigned .pleasure to him and Mrs. Whitley, and such a pleasure also to get in touch with people of like miml and occupation. He therefore sent a message of goodwill and grateful thanks. The letter was read at the South 'Taranaki executive meeting yesterday and nas cordially appreciatde, for many of the members recalled with much pleasure the visit of the farmers’ J party to Hawera and South Taranaki.
