A by-eloeti.on will take place almost immediately in the Fareliam division •of Hampshire owing to the resignation of the Conservative member. Sir •John Davidson-. Sir Thomas Inskip, Attorney-General m the late Government, Will be the Conservative candidate, and states that lie is anxious to return to the Mouse of Commons in time to take part in the debates on the Trades Disputes Bill. In a three-cornered contest at the general election. Sir John Davidson had a majority of 11.000.

An exchange of letters between Ylr Paul Springman. representative of the Empire Crusade and the United Party in the East Islington by-election now pending, and Miss Cazalen. Conservative candidate, lias resulted in the withdrawal of Mr Springman. The contest will be between Labour, Conservative and Liberal candidates. The vacancy was caused by the death of the Labour member. Dr. Ethel Bentham. who bad a majority of 2000 over the Conservative candidate and 4000 over the Libral candidate in lhe general election.
