810 EVENT TO OTAIRI SUMMER FIXTURE OPENS FALL IN ATTENDANCE Though bright seasonal weather flavoured the opening of tlie Egmont Pacing Club 's summer meeting at Haw era to-day the attendance showed a marked decline in comparison with previous gatherings at tlie fixture, and was reflected in totalisator investments oil v.he opening event, •which were almost 40 per cent, below the sum passed through the totalisator for the same event of the mooting of December of 1929, which was tlie corresponding meeting of last season, while the drop in the big race exceeded 40 per cent. With a field of nine, the Egmont Cup provided a good race, with a thrilling finish, in which the Awapuni-trained gelding, Otairi, took the first honours from Vertigorn, when the latter appeared to have tlie race practically won. The tracks were in excellent order and the administrative details secured the attention of a capable band of officials combining with the president. (Mr .7. Gray) and the secretary (Air E. P. Cox). Mr W. P. Russell officiated as .fudge and Mr A. Tronson as handicapperl Making his first appearance as starter, Mr A. Patterson was unlucky in the opening race when one rider fouled the tapes and another horse was also held up, the pair taking no part in tlie event.

and in a small betting race Tenacre was favourite with .158 tickets. Full Mark was third order with 146 tickets. Royal Acre and Denier were left at the post, taking no part in the race. Goblin Market led Full Mark to the first fence, but the latter was in front soon after and was not subsequently headed. Passing ihe stands Full Mark led Goblin Market, Tenacre and Fine Acre in close order, but at the six the leader had an advantage of three lengths with the others bunched in the same order. The half-mile found no material alteration, Out in the run to the home turn Tonacre moved up into second berth. Full Mark was still in command at the last fence and went on to win by two lengths from Tenacre, with a short length to 'Goblin Market and Fine Acre six lengths back. Time, 2.461.
