ACCOMMODATING INJURED
ARRANGEMENTS AT ITAWEHA. I NUMBER EXPECTED TO-DAY, Advice was received this morning by Dr. Cairney, medical superintendent of the Hawera Hospital, that there are 89 patients from the Napier area in the Palmerston Hospital and that a further 31 had been drafted to tbe Wanganui Hospital. Yesterday Dr. Cairney offered to provide- accommodation for 30 of the injured at the Hawera Hospital, his offer being gratefully accepted. A special train conveying injurtle is expected at Hawera from Palmerston some time to-day but three hours’ notice will be given the hospital of their coming. A further train load Pl : -patients from the area was expected at Palmerston North this morning and it is understood that many of them will be drafted to other centres. Members of tbe Hawera Red Cross Society have placed their services at Dr. Cairney’s disposal in tbe event of injured arriving here and are in readiness for an immediate call. Drs. Sinclair and Paterson and the matron of the hospital, Miss Hunter, have returned _ to Hawera from Napier. there being ample doctor® and nurses available on the spot to more than cope with the number of cases. Sister Walter, who also accompanied the party from the Hawera Hospital, has remained in Palmerston North, and it is likely that she will return with the batch' of patients to be transferred from Palmerston North.
