GRIM TURKISH EXECUTIONS
ERECTION OF THIRTY GALLOWS
CONSTANTINOPLE, Feb. 2. The village of Meneinen is resounding ‘all day with the sound of hammering in connection with the erection of 30 gallows for the execution of 30 Dervish sheikhs who were concerned in an uprising in the Smyrna province. The sentences are expected to be ratified to-day and the executions will take place at daylight on Tuesday. One of the leaders will be hanged on the spot where a Turkish soldier was beheaded on the day' of the outbreak, some in front of the mosque, and others where the demonstrations were carried out. Turkish executions are gruesome spectacles.
