DOMINION TOURNEY. RINK PLAY COMMENCING. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Jan. 16. The singles contestants having been reduced from 172 to five;, and the; pairs contestants. • from 236 to 38, competitions in the Dominion bowling championship tournament to-day started the rinkis championship ill which 148 rinks comprising 592 players are entered. These games are to be played to-day, Saturday and Monday. It is expected the; tournament will finish on Friday or Saturday. PUKEKOHE VISITS PARK. HONOURS TO HOME SIDE. Two rinks from Pukekohe (Auckland) paid a visit to the Park Bowling Club’s green at Hawera this morning and played a match. Park emerged the victors by six points in the aggregate, the scores being: Pukekohe 28, Park 34. The following are the scores, Pukekohe rinks being mentioned first: Bloxham, Boyd, Wymer, Blake, 10, v. Bremford, Williamson, Curtis, Mason, 15.
G. Lawrie, Day, C. K. Lawrie, Jamieson, 18, v. Cox, AlcPlnllips, Goodwin, Quin, 19. The games were played in true holiday spirit and the utmost joviality reigned. At the conclusion of the games the Park club’s president (Air. .J J. Goodwin) humorously invested AH*. C. K. Lawrie, as representative of the Pukekohe club, with the order of the “Spud” in the form of a wreath of potatoes and onions, for which his district is noted. Mr. Lawrie in reply thanked the Park members for their exceedingly warm welcome and assured them that the insignia would repose in an honoui cd place in the pavilion of his club, “as long as it could really be tolerated.
