Preston, 26 years of age, described as a, farmer, was the ordering 'of all kinds of goods for a marriage although he had no marriage in view Preston was charged before Mr Young S.M.. this morning with beincr an idle and disorderly 'person magistrate, after commenting on his queer past, sentenced him to three months’ hard labour. Mr. Young suggested that tlie prison authorities should have the man examined to inquire hitp his mental condition. The Chief Detective said that accused had come up from Dunedin on license and during a month’s visit had been staying at different places although, he had no money. Ho called at Dominion Motors Ltd. and gave them a cheque for £4OO for a car for which he never took delivery. He repeatedl tiro process with the Ford Motors Ltd. Then, at the time of Ins arrest, Preston was negotiating for the purchase of furniture.
