Overcome' by foul air in an , deep valve shaft in a core wall at the Man<ramahoe dam, <l workman named. J H! Briggs, fell 20 to 25 feet to the bottom of the shaft to-day and was rescued with great difficulty. He descended the shaft on handspikes to attend to a leaking valve. McKenzie found Briggs unconscious and the two men were brought to the surface, where they soon recovered. The shaft is in a core wall of the dam, being built to extend the New Plymouth Power scheme.
