RE P RESENT ATI V E MATCHES
PLAYERS. WHO AVILL NOT TRAVEL. A COMPLAINT VOICED. At the meeting of the _ Taranaki Cricket Association last night the question of representative matches and of the players who presumably will not travel but are always anxious to play in home matches was considered, and it was resolved that the association have power, if it thinks fit, to exclude isuch players from matches at home. ' The subject was voiced by Mr H. D. Hughes, who said it had always been a sore point with him that this should happen and that players should be unwilling to travel, which would be at their own expense, and yet be willing to play at home, lhe enthusiasts who did go. away were then often dropped when home matches were played. Mr Bottrill 'supported Mr Hughes and moved: “That this association will, consider the eligibility of players for home matches who consistently j refuse to travel with, representative teams.” Mr A r Duff opnosed the motion on 1 the grounds that" it was not putting cricket in its proper place and might easilv do an injustice to some playei or players. "Who was to say whether or not any particular player wais justified or not in declining to travel. Mr Bottrill said the resolution did not create the danger of injustice suggested by Mr Duff, for in the first place there was no onus on the selectors to leave out any . players -that onus was on the association and. m the second place there was nothing bindino- in the motion. The association would judge the cases on thenmerits. , ... ~ , Mr Duff said the public would not stand for, say. four of the best leavers being omitted from _ the team to plav against a strong visiting team. | The motion was seconded and carried.
