DEMONSTRATION FARMING
W AIM ATE WEST AREA . DECEMBER OPERATIONS. A resume of the work done .at the Waimate West Demonstation Area, was given at the monthly meeting of the committee held yesterday at the County office in Manaia. There were present Messrs. J. M. Smith (chair), T. A. Bridge, E. Long, J. S. McKay, E. J. Betts, H. H. Buxton, J. W. Palmer. The chairman reported that pastures were in good condition now that the dry spell was over, warm rains having followed that promoted good growth. This was particularly noticeable in the white clover and excellent feed generally was. very prevalent. Tlie second out of lucerne had been put into the silo, the mast and boom being used and proving very satisfactory. The material was put in through double doors in the roof. In all 29 acres, had been used for ensilage. I Twelve acres were cut on December 12 and stacked on the 20th, two stacks being made, one in each of the two j paddocks, 4 and 4A. The crop was I verv heavy. I The soft turnips were re-sown on 1 December 14 and were growing well. Fifty-six cows were going through the shod, the milk to date being 1260 lbs with a 4.4 test and butter fat for I December IDGO’ibs, an advance of 1731!bs on December of last year. The total fat for the season to elate was 76331b5. ail increase of 13121-bs on last year to the same date. There were eighteen weaner pigs and all were doing well. It was resolved to communicate with Air. J. AY. Deem in reference to the elevator which it was resolved not to retain.
