PAMPERED FIDO
T I.'.YURIES for dogs are among the prominently displayed goods in London stores now (states the “Sunday Dispatch”). The latest device is a spring mattress standing off the ground, ranging in price from 9s 6d (Pekingese) to 35s (Great Dane, Airedale, or any of the larger breeds), and you are assured that the mattresses have their practical side as well as the purely ornamental.
For the discriminating Pekingese and other small pets, these mattresses have been padded and upholstered in coloured damask. One seen bad been made to match a Mayfair drawingroom in deep purple.
Ornamental drinking howls are apparently replacing the old plain ones marked simply “Dog.” A picture oi the animal is taken and sent to an artist, who reproduces it on wood in natural coloums. This is attached to a drinking bowl and sold at 32s 6d.
Dogs in Motor Costume
Lacquer kennels for the smaller breeds are popular. Magnificent reds and golds and blues can be obtained for £5 ss. The dogs lie on ■ silken cushions.
| If Fido has to make a journey a special suit case accompanies him. , This resembles a hat-box, but when I opened it can be made into a sleepingbox, together with a special compartment for his brush, comb, and lead. The brushes are painted in bright colours with portraits of their owners on the back. Leads, harness and colours must now match the dress of the dog’s mistress. A correspondent watched a Yorkshire terrier choosing a motoring costume. He sniffed his approval of a crimson woollen jumper, in which he was solemnly dressed, and the toilette was completed by a pair of miniature motoring goggles! In a glass case were attractive-look-ing boxes with “For a Good Dog” on them. Inside were various presents.
