Stanley Jackson, aged IS, hanged himself with a strip of blanket at the Long Bay gaol during the night. He was awaiting trial for the murder of Mrs Gershel, aged 83, whom he allegedly brutally assaulted on December 18 while trying to steal her handbag. She died from the effects of the ordeal on January 2'.
