FASHION “GONE MAD”

Women in England arc hanging small fortunes in their ears, states a London writer. A sudden boom in the weaving of ear-rings is packing the jewellers’ shops, and the piercers of cars are on the flood-tide of prosperity. Fashion has gone made. The old fashion of a single pearl or a small and dainty jewel in each ear has vanished, and to be chic about the ears to-day it is necessary to carry about huge ornaments, i Some ear-rings look like miniature chandeliers, while others suggest a brace of Crystal Palaces. Little girls who weigh about eight- stone are supporting great lumps of crystal in their tiny ears. The favourite styles are “The Quoit’’ and “The Communication Cord.’’ “The Quoit,’’ is a jewelled circlet about six inches wide. The end brushes the shoulder blades, and the whole offers an excellent imitation of a Congo bell at a party. “The Communication Cord’’ is a most over-grown ear-ring. It is made on the pendant principle, and is sometimes over a foot in length, the jewelled ends hanging well down to the front of the gown. .Tade, garnet and coral are the popular stones.

The new ear-rings have stormed even the nurseries.. Three-year-old Nellie is goo-gooing round the room with a mass of metal in her ears. Strangely sophisticated little girls of nine and ten are all wearing them.
