MOUNTAIN TRAMPER MISSING
FEARS FOR HIS SAFETY
MANY DAYS OVERDUE

WELLINGTON. Jan. 9
A message received from Makarora (Otago) states that Bert Thomson, of Alexandra, a returned soldier, left Makarora on December 17 to tramp over the Haast Pass to the A\ est Coast. He failed to reach any populated part on the coast and was known to he carrying only a small quantity of provisions.
