SCHOOL FUNCTION
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
The day before the Christmas vacation the pupils and teachers of the Ohangai school entertained parents and friends to a social afternoon at the school. The first part of the afternoon was* occupied in games and tennis and then the children gave a series of recitations and musical items. This was followed bv afternoon tea. Mr Philpott, in the unavoidable absence of the chairman, Mr P. Sheahan, presented each pupil with a hook and also the respective captains of the basketball and football teams with small gifts front the teams as a recognition of the success achieved by them. Miss Patched had coached the basketball team and Mr N. AAT Lee and Mr S. Savage tlie footballers, while Mr Dv son had given his time and his lorry to convey the teams to their matches. Hearty cheers were given for the teachers and committee. FARMING WORK. Farmers have been exceedingly busy with their ensilage making and will now concentrate on haymaking. Young crops have been benefited by tlie recentrains and are looking very well.
