TOUR BY CAR
BAY OF PLENTY AND AUCKLAND.
HAWERA RESIDENTS’ IMPRES SION-S.
A very interesting and enjoyable motor tour of ten days’ duration lias just been completed by Mr and Mrs W. Adams, of Hawera. They left Hawcra on Christmas Day and went via Morrinsvillc to Tauranga. After a day in that neighbourhood they returned and went via Thames to Auckland, where a week was spent. Thence they returned home to Hawera. At Tauranga they met Mr B. C. Bobbins, formerly Mayor of Hawera and now Mayor of the northern seaside town. He was very well and still keenly interested in South Taranaki and Hawera.
Travelling round the country in the neighbourhood of Tauranga Mr Adams said he was struck by the large areas of undeveloped country and of land that was just being cleared of titree ana other small growth. He was informed by men of experience that the land, though comparatively poor in quality, responded readily to top-dress-ing and grew excellent grass. He found the land that had been cultivated was in excellent heart and the cattle in wonderful condition.
Stops were made at motor camping sites at Tauranga and at Auckland. Both were found very good and convenient. At Tauranga the site is near the beach and beautifully sheltered by avenues of trees, while for a small charge electric light, and power were available. At Auckland, it was a larger, piace and also very convenient and well served for tourists. At both they met a number of tourists from this district. It was four years since Mr and Mrs Adams had been round that district ami they found the roads wonderfully ir proved and in excellent order. The concrete roads round Auckland were a revelation to them in road construction.
