The Kaponga Brass Band commenced its Christmas ' carolling-season on Monday evening when carols were played in the Palmer Road district. A competition for the K.Y.1'.8. silver buttons for four men drill took place on Thursday evening when a team comprising Firemen H. Mills, L. A Wells. K. lioh'.l. and Messenger K. Albion defeated the present holders. Firemen F. Albion. C. Dawson, G. Noonan and It. Noonan. Spare time energies of brigadesmen are '.still being displayed on the painting of _ the lire station which is now- having its “second coat.” At Tuesday's meeting of the I’o.yn Board the question of keeping, the water tables free from weeds was discussed. As a result of the frequent grubbing of weeds the tables were being deepened with bad effects. It was decided to carry out experiments with several types *of weed exterminators with a view to obviating the grubbing and consequent damage to the water tables. I NKM PLOY MKNT COM M ITT’KK. At the public meeting iu Tcltliain on Tuesday night an unemployment committee was formed. The committee wifi deal with the provision of work between new and the end of January, for those nut of work in the Kith am county. It is understood' that a sub-committee is being formed in Kaponga and will work in conjunction with the main committee' at EJtham. So far as can bo ascertained at m;eseiiit the Ideal Town Beau! It It, is desired. also, that persons having work offering will register their mimes so that the comm if tee will be in a position to place whatever labour is offering. CLEAN-UP DAY. The local Town Hoard foreman and staff are busily engaged with “cleanup” day activities and -householders are urged not to miss this opportunity of having all refuse removed by tliei Town Board officials.
