SIX YEARS’ IMPRISONMENT
YOUNG MAN’S SERIOUS CRIME. (By Telrgraph —Press Association.) WELLINGTON. Dec. 19. “I was wondering whether I ought to order you to be flogged as- part of your sentence. It is what you thorloihly deserve, but I 'have decided not. to'"do that. 1 am gonig to inflict a. long term of imprisonment. This sort of 'thing cannot be tolerated in the conunumtv.” These remarks were passed by Mr. Justice Ostler to-day in sentencing William William®, a young man. to six yeans’ hard labour for raping a gill of six at Masterton. The judge described the offence: as pan ticularly brutal, callous and violent and added that the prisoner was a man of bad (character, with convictions ioi theft against him. '
