OFFICIAL VISITOR’S REPORT

Miss Thelimt Lissington. editor ot the Junior Red Crciss J'otinnil, recently reported «« follows to headquarters upon her visit to Red circles in Sout.i Taranaki: — , . I liavei the honour to report that at the invitation of the HaSvera and New Plymouth branches I phid a- visit to Taranaki with a view to stimulating interest in the Junior Hied Cross movement in that district. The circles m Taranaki are... doing particularly good \vdrk and reflect great credit on the Jltkl Cross sisters stationed there who are untiring in their efforts to turtliei the Junior Red Cross work bisters InMes arid Corkill did everything that they possibly could to make it possible for'me to visit all of the circles in their districts, it it. liad not been lor their wonderful co-operation I would not have been able to visit more than a lo\\ circles during the short time at m> disposal. Thanks are due to circles in ind around. Hawera for defraying iny living expenses and to the Hawera Committee for defraying ray travelling while in that town. Also to the New Plymouth Committee for defraying all lnv expenses while in New Plymouth. ■Both committees did everything possible to make my stay in their respective towns comfortable and happy. All ot the circles visited were enthusiastic and flourishing and anxious to learn as much as possible about the movement of which they uWe a paid. The teachers were all most courteous, interested and pleased to receive a visit from an official froiii headquarters. They- were all agreed that it was most necessary to' have someone officially visit circles as" the children then felt that headquarters were interested in their circles and felt that when they were wilting in for information, advice, etc., they were writing to a person who understood their schools, conditions,; ’etc., and not just to a myth who had. never seen them and therefore could 1 not be very interested in them. The schools and places visited in Sionth Taranaki are ns follows: Oaonui School. —Headmaster, Mr Quigley. Circle secretary, Beatrice Bishop'. This is a new circle which is receiving, as are all the other circles, Instruction from the Red Cross sister. Members concentrating, all efforts on a Christmas hamper for a poor family. This hamper is to contain a turkey, fowls, etc. Membership, 30. O.punake School.—Headmaster, Mr Burgess. Circle secretary, Jean Mc'Ciilhirii. Sister Ingles and I formed a circle at this school. The first work tiiat this circle undertook was to adopt two poor families in the district and they undertook to keep them supplied with clothes, vegetables and as often as possible with groceries. Working for Christmas shelf and majority of members eiitering foi the Grassland Knori'ledge competition., Also working for New Plymouth Hospital. Meiribership, approx. 30.

.Uraturia School. —Headmaster. Mr Kedgelev. Circle secretary, Phyllis Parkris. This' was the (first- school in which I heard the Junior Red Cross: song'. Children have made beautiful stuffed animals fcir Christmas. shell'. Held Concerts to raisC funds. Membership, 30 to 35.

KapOnga, branch of tin l Red Cross.— President. Rev. Cossum. Addressed membfers of this branch on the Junior Red Cross. All members were most interested and all hope to be able to assist; this*-,movement in Kaponga. Okaiawa —Headmaster. Mi*' •Event's. Circle secretary, Riuth Blair. Mehibersi have undertaken to carry out some definite Junior Red Cross work leach month. Boy members held wrestlling- contest arid raised 13s for funds. Held penny concert, raising 16s for circle. At pi'eserit working for bazaar. Going to adopt poor cliild in Hawera 'at first opportunity. Membership, 40 to- 60!

Auroa School.—Headmistress. Airs A. -Vi. Evans. Circle secretary, Ne'tta-, Duff. Working for Porirua Radio! ITniitl> and Christmas shell'. Holding bazaar and guessing competition in order to' raise funds. Membership. 70 to 90... Te ,Roti School.—Headmistress, AIVs \V. At. Finch. Circle secretary, Ray Sadler. Children making wonderful Turkish, wool mat which they are raffling lor circle funds. Sent books to children’s hospital. Sent sick member trait and books. Sent gifts of clothing to poor children. Collecting clothes for Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard-. Preparing for a sale of w-ork. Membership, 40. Kltham School.—Headmaster, Air R. It. Thomas. Circle secretary, Aladge lowiisend. Circle raised over £2O at bazaari and presented cot through Mayot of Hlthrim to the Hawera Hospital. Juniors assist school nurse eacli time there is a medical inspection at the school. Working hard to give C oi'istiiias cheer to some poor families. Alemhersliip 80. } Cardiff School. —Headmistress, Miss [H. It. A. Small. Circle .secretary, Joan i Radnor. Held bnzzaar raising £5 15s. Gave £1 to poor children’s Christmas dinner fund in tlie Homeland. With tim balance of the money they propose making up Christinas parcels lor poor families living in their district. Held bazaar raising £lO 3s 3d which was expended as follows.: Headquarters, 10s; Jubilee Institute for the Blind, £1; Salvation Army Home. £1; Old -Men’s Home, 10s lor tobacco at Christmas time ; school committee, £2 9k; giving donation towards expenses of sick child in convalescent home. Memhersliip. 63. Hawera Senior Bed Cross, Mrs Stevens. —Addressed members of committee and senior students on Junior l\Cd Cross. One senior student of this section has undertaken to act as patron to one of tlie Hawera circles. All members take an active interest in the movement in Hawera-. Aill of thej circles in the Hawera district take lessons in first aid and all helped Sister Ingles by making articles for the Bed Cross stall at the Winter Show. Many more circles could he formed in this- area it Red Cross sister had more time at her disposal for junior work.
