DEFEATED IN COMMONS
AMENDMENT BY LORDS. CONTINUANCE OF ACT. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph Copyright.} LONDON, Dec. 17. There was a crowded attendance at the House of Commons during the debate on the Expiring Laws Continuance Bill, which must be passed before the rising of the House on Dev j cember 19. The Rt. Hon. W. Graham, ■ ~ \ President of the Board of Trade, suvprised the House by moving to disagree with the Lords’ amendment which would continue the Dyestuffs Act for another year. The House watched with excitement as the division hour approached. Mr. Graham’s motion was carried by 244 v votes to 238. Fifteen Liberals voted with the Conservatives, and seven Labour members, including Mr. G. H. Oliver. Mr. Stanley Baldwin, Miss Jenny Lee and Miss Ellen Wilkinson did not vote.
