UNEMPLOYMENT COMMITTEE. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The following representatives attended a meeting for the purpose of forming a local unemployment committee called by tire Mayor (Mr X. J. Bridget) in the Borough Council Chambers on Tuesday night: Messrs F. Muggeridge (County Council), T. Trask (Farmers’ Union), J. Cocker (Drainage Board), C. A. Wilkinson, M.P., J. H. Morton (Chamber of Com-, inerce). L. Nairn (Hospital Board), H. Kasper (Returned Soldiers’. Association), D. MeCready (postmaster, representing the Labour Department), Riev. Ryebufn, W. Ricketts (School Committee). Apologies were received from the chairman of the Kaponga Town Board, the chairman of the County Council (Mr A. L. Campbell) and the president of the Chamber of Commerce (Mr H. G. Carman). After explaining the purpose, of the meeting and outlining the work and duties of the suggested local unemployment committee, Mr Bridget* moved: “That- those present form themselves into a temporary committee for the purpose of administering No. 2 scheme until January 31 and that local bodies and committees be requested to nominate permanent representatives on the committee for the purpose of functioning after January 31, 1931.” The resolution was seconded by Mr L. Nairn and carried. It was decided that the committee govern the area comprising the Ellthain Borough, Elthani County and the Kaponga Town Board and to appoint a sub-committee consisting of the chairman of the Kaponga Town Board, the chairman of the Kaponga and Awatuna. dairy companies, and an executive committee consisting of Mr 1.
