XMAS TREE GIFTS
ODDFELLOW LODGES
ASSEMBLY AT HAAVERA
St. Mary’s Hall, Hawera, was the rendezvous of the Huia and Kiwi (Rebekah) lodges of the 1.0.0. F., N.Z., last evening on the occasion of me entertainment of the children of .members at the annual Christmas tree and dispensation of gifts by Father Christimas. A gaily decorated Christmas tree met the eyes of the young people immediately they entered the hall and Father Christmas was greeted on his arrival with enthusiastic cheers. The dispensing of the gifts was speedily accomplished and • the young people were then marshalled and games and competitions occupied the remainder of the evening until supper time. Immediately Supper was over, Mr. O. V. Church (N.G.), of Huia Lodge, addressed parents and children, thanking them for their attendance at the annual reunion of members of both lodges. He hoped the occasion would remain in the memories of the children as the premier night of the year. The gathering served a twofold purpose in that it enabled the wives oi members to meet fraternally, and was also the means of encouraging the young people to become a fraternity from which, it was hoped, the Oddfellows. of the future would emanate. Mr. Church heartily thanked all those who had assisted both to arrange the function and in the hall. To the ladies of the Kiwi (Rebekah) Lodge were due the special thanks of each and every member for their excellent work in decorating the Christmas tree and preparing the supper, concluded Mr. Church. -
The singing of ‘‘Auld Lang Syne' concluded an evening to be remembered long by young folk and old alike.
