SPANISH REVOLT IN HAND
CONDITIONS ALMOST NORMAL PREVENTING A RECRUDESCENCE PRECAUTIONS AT BAR'CEIOXA (United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph Copyright.) irAPRTD. Dee. Hi. The Minister for the Interior ‘announces that conditions are normal throughout Spain, except, at Barcelona, where the majority of workmen have struck. Nevertheless 'the city is calm. Meanwhile the Government is exercising the greatest precautions to prevent a recrudescence of the. revolt, especially in Barcelona. Troops and police are constantly patrolling the streets and* are also stationodl at strategic points. Machine-guns have been mounted to Sweep the principal streets i and squares. The railway stations are heavily guarded, the road's- carefully watched, and lorries searched for bombs and arms. Groups' of more than three or four are forbidden in- the Streets. The- town is under martial law.
Franco, the firebrand revolutionary leader, declares that the movement failed owing to treachery: He says: “We again cut a ridiculous figure in the eyes of the world owing to lack of cohesion ‘and muddled'-headed misdirection.''
Dellano, the iSpanish airman interned in Portugal, interviewed, 'said that the failure of the revolution was due to Captain Gal aw’s impetuosity in acting three d»ays before the revolt was ready, owing to an obsession that he would be credited with the leadership.
Pranco is interned in a 'cell of a disused monastery at Mafra. Interviewed , he declared- the Republican movement was not. 'crushed. The country did n;oit want to be governed by General .Beren-gner, who was largely responsible for the Moroccan reverses. -It would not- forgive the King for intervening in public, affairs.
