Mr. O. -J. Hawken was a visitor to Hawera yesterday for the farmers’ conference.
Mr. A. T. Nelson (New Plymouth) has been appointed Wellington-Tara-naki area officer to the New Zealand Farmers’ Union.
Mrs T. D. Moss, of Nolantown, left by mail train yesterday on a- holiday visit to Wellington and the South Island.
A London cablegram reports the death of -Mr ,W. F. Ferguson, trade officer at the New Zealand High Commissioner’s Office, after an operation for appendicitis. IM. Poincare has slightly improved, states a cable from Paris. ‘He is suffering from phlebitis and .congestion of the lungs. Mr. Thomas M. Fitzgerald, son of Mrs. and Mr. J. Fitzgerald, Nolan Road, Hawera, has received word that he has been successful in passing the first section of the final examination in medicine held by the University of New Zealand. Reference was made at the school presentations last night at Axarata by the chairman (Mr. A. Larcom) to the accident suffered recently by. Mr. Walter Parker, a keen enthusiast in the farm work of the school. On behalf of settlers of the district, he expressed sympathy with Mr. Parker and expressed "the hope that he would soon be completely recovered..
