At the wool sales to-day 10,345 hales wore offered, of 'which -91170 were, sold and 0'317 were, disposed- of privately. Tin* market: recovered its firmness for all finer types of Merino. CHRISTCHURCH, .Dee. 17. Entries in most of the sections at the nee kly market at Addington to-day were normal, but there were farther easing* recorded' in beef and mutton. One cf the principal events of the market was the very firm d’at lamb sale. There was an entry of 2200 fat lambs, easily the largest this season, it was the principal and last market before the rush of Christmas trade next week and a. great deal of interest was evidenced by butchers. There was very keen competition and the rates paid, as high as 7di per lb in many cases prevented 1 any extensive allying by export buyers. In store sheep there was the smallest entry for some months —about 1200. Competition was keen throughout and prices recorded an increase on late rates of Is a head over all. Good four and six-tooth) Romney wethers made Us 9d to los 3d, good four and sixtooth half-bred wethers to 14s fidbackward half-bred wethers to Gs Id, sound-mouth ewes and lambs (all counted!. to 10s 6d, aged and backward ewes and lambs, to os lOd. In fat lambs the firming in values as compared .with late rates was Is and. m to 2s a head. The average price per pound was from 6£d to 70. There was an entry of 4400 fat sheep. Tire sale was erratic. The demand was fairly keen, but in the later stages there was an easing apparent for ewes, which receded on late rates by Is and mto2s to head. The average decline for that class was about Is a head. Of store cattle the medium yarding included a fail' proportion of yearliitg. The sale was freer and prices showed an improvement. A pen of rough three and four-year-old station steers made up to £5 13b Gd. Mixed colour year'hw .steers made £3 11. s to £3 15s. A 'non of fair yearling Shorthorn steers brought £3 14s Gd: inferior steers to £2 2s 6d, two-year heifers, to £4 10s, and fresh cows £4 13s Gd to £5 ss. Bulls sold at late rates.

Tile entry of daily cattle totalled 50 head and it included one or two good sorts. Very tew heifers were offered. There was an easing in price and passings were frequent. Good second and third carters made £9 to £ll Los 9d, medium sorts £0 10s to £B, aged* and inferior £3 3-s to £5 ss. Fat pig prices made about the same as last week. Choppers made 30s to to £4 13s 6d. baconers 54s to 60s heavy fiaconers 65s to 70s, extra heavy to £3 16s 6cl (average price a lb- 4Jcl to porkers 34s to 40s*, heavy po-rk-c.*rs 42s to 52i> (average price per lb, •Ad to 6d). Competition was steady throughout the Vest-field sale to-day and last week’s values were fully sustained. In odd cases of choice lightweight ox there was a slight improvement. Extra choice ox sold to £1 11s per 160-1 b, choice and prime ox £1 9s to £T 10s, secondary and plain ox £1 5s to £1 Bs. prime young cow and heifer beef £1 7s to £l 10s, ordinary cow beef ]Bs to £T Os 6d.
