MAN SHOT IN ABDOMEN
REFUSAL TO PAY FEES POLICE ARREST FIVE MEN. (United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph Copyright.) Received 12.30 pan. to-clay. SYDNEY, Nov. 1. Charles Evans, aged 28, tv as shot in the abdomen by the captain of a ITawkesbury River vehicle punt during a brawl on the vessel and is now on the ooint of death. He and five companions refused to pay their fees on the punt and after a wordy warfare a fierce fight commenced. The men attacked a deckband. who was fiung to the deck and kicked and punched. The captain, seeing the deckhand being unmercifully battered, fired two shots over the men’s heads. As this had no effect a third shot was fired and Evans fell. He was rushed to hospital, bleeding profusely. Five men have been charged with assault.
