HAWERA INSTALLATION
TRIAL ILLUMINATION
Favourable comment concerning ilie electric street lighting system being installed at Hawera was voiced L-.v residents and visitors who were in the central portion of the town last evening when a brief trial was o;iveii • o a portion of the equipment being -provided by the- South Taranaki Electric , s >.wer Board. Three of the circuits which serve the western and central portion ol the system have been completed and were illuminated on Sunday c\ tiling’s demonstration.
The system proved highly satisfactory and in High Street, lamps of the central suspension type are, provided, the effect was particularly si riling. These lamps are of a, special type procured for the purpose arid range in newer from 100 to 250 candlepower.
A witness of Sunday’s demonstration who lias travelled extensively in New Zealand subsequently expressed to a “Star” reporter the opinion that the new lighting in Haw-era’s main thoroughfare was equal the bast of that in principal streets of any of the cities of the Dominion.
It is expected that the- work of installing the remaining portions of the borough system will be con,doted 1 ly the end of the present week.
