BOYS AND GIRLS’ CLUBS
EXECUTIVE MEETING. Members of the. executive of the Boys and Girls’ Clubs present at a special meeting on Saturday morning were Messrs G. Eord (chair), E. Hoskin, W. T. Seed, H. R. Denize, E. J. Booth, E. J. Betts, Jolly, Burns, Rod Syme and E. K. Cameron (secretary). The committee set up to draw up rules for the competitions in garden produce for town children submitted their report, which included the following groups: First, Eltham 11, Stratford 3, Normanby 9, total 23; aseoond, Okaiawa 3, Hawera 18, Turuturu 6, total 27; third, - Manaia Convent 1, Manaia 11, Tawhiti 9, total 21. The trophies to be awarded will be: 1 Championships, trophy; group prizes, medal and coupon each for first, second and third; a coupon each for best cultivated plot and for best display at show. Each coupon represents 7s 6d worth of seeds and eleven of these have been donated by two business firm. The points for judging will be: Cultivation 40, records 15, general appearance 10, growth (including yield and freedom from diseases, etc.) 10, quality 20, appearance of exhibit at show 5, a total of 100. The show prizes (entry fee 6d per exhihit will be: Championship (best display), 10s; group prizes for best displav—first 7s 6d, second ss; best of each vegetable in each group—first 3s, second 2s.
The show exhibit is to include three of each, except silver beet, of which there is to be one plant. All produce exhibited at show will become the property of the eluhs’ association, to be sold for purpose of providing prizes for the future. It was resolved, after some discussion. to approve the rules and conditions. Mr Svme referred to the championships at- Eltham in calf-judging and urged the need of stewards to assist in taking results and in general organisation. He referred also to the loss of time in taking the . children a wav for lunch. A suggestion was made that the. W.D.F.U. or the Plunket- Society might assist. Eventually it was left to a committee consisting of Messrs Ford, Cameron and Syme to see what could he done, with power to act. He also drew attention to. the judging and on liis suggestion it was resolved to have one. judge for type for pfieli class and two or more for condition.
