WANGANUI WOOL SALE

LOAN AND MERCANTILE PRICES. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency, Co., Ltd.; reports as follows r The first wool sale in Wanganui for the 1930-31 season was held yesterday, when a -total offering of approximately 12,000 bales was cata-' logued, of which our quota comprised 1,451 bales, drawn from Wanganui, I Palmerston North, Main Trunk and; Taranaki districts. There was a fullbench of bnuyers, who, from the commencement of the sale, competed keenly up to their limits for the vari-"' ous lots, as they were submitted. Competition was much more spread and' general than at Auckland, and while the maim support was from the Con- - tinent, still Bradford representatives! pushed them hard, and secured a fair;,' proportion of the offering. Pricesshowed little or no change compared! with those ruling at Auckland earlier!, in the week.

Owing to- the very wet and inclement weather, which retarded shearing, the offering at yesterday’s sale'; was much smaller than was anticipated, and would have been smaller' had it not been that a considerable proportion of held over wool was included in the catalogues. This season’s wool opened up in fair condition, but unfortunately quite a lot of it contained seed, and the held over wool in many instances was badly discoloured, which of course militated, against—its realising quite as good prices .as! this year’s clip. Very little lambs’ wool was included in the offerings, and only well-grown parcels, free 'from.7 seed, attracted the buyers, while short,; and seedy lots were more or less neglected, and to effect sales very low prices had to be acceptedi* Bellies-, pieces and looks, unless clean and free from seed, were - also hard to sell, and low prices for them had to be accepted.

Following are some- of the firm's prices: EXH/KI, hoggets, 44-; Mt.
