FARMERS’ UNION. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The monthly meeting; of the Awatuna branch of the Farmers’ Union was held in the Riverlea Hall on Wednesday evening, when there was a very fair attendance. In the absence of the president, Mr H. Davison, the chair was taken by Mr M. F. Voullaire, vice-president. Correspondence was received from Mr J. M. Smith, of the Fields Division, in reply to an inquiry regarding certain manure; also from Messrs C. A. Wilkinson, Ltd., enclosing prices of manures, etc. In reply to a query as to whether a letter had been received from Mr C. J. Harris, organiser, regarding working the district, the secretary replied that he had handed this, on to the president, who was attending to the matter. Mr Agnew asked what was the intention of the area officer, for whom he had seen applications advertised. The chairman explained the position, but members considered the district somewhat large. Some informal discussion took place over the unemployment levy, several members expressing disapproval of the lew, but no motion was passed. Messr Davison. Barker, Phillips. Agnew and Voullaire were appointed ns representatives from the branch to the central show meeting, when such was called to be held at Auroa. The secretary reported having received members’ badges from the provincial seoretavv and members present were handed theirs. It was resolved that unless some important question caused an alteration the next meeting be held in Januarv at Awatuna, missing the December meeting as usual. GENERAL. The weather last week was atrocious and cold as at any time during the winter. At present it is warmer but still unsettled'. So far there have only been five rainless days during the. month. Feed, owing to the bad weather. is -short, and a spell of warm weather is urgently needed. On Tuesday next the local calfjudging is to take place and there will be a good muster of calves and it is to lie hoped of yearlings and two-year-olds also. Given a fine day an interesting display will no doubt again greet the. judges.
