STRATFORD SHOW

OPENING CEREMONY PEOPLE’S DAY LARGE CROWD PRESENT. In the presence of a very large crowd from all parts of the district tiie official opening ceremony of the Stratford Show was performed by -Mr. \V. J. -Polsgn, M.P. Mr. Poison expressed regret at the disagreeable weather, hut congratulated the association on the splendid show of dairy cattle. Pealing with production in Taranaki, Air. Poison quoted the latest figures regarding crops in Taranaki, which showed that production had by no means reached its peak. Lie urged all to do everything possible to add to the resources of the province and assured his hearers that there was capacity for a very considerable profitable increase. “We are going through a difficult time,” he said in conclusion, “but the nien of this province have the courage, they have the land, and they possess the' energy and determination to make good. Therefore, in spite of depressions and set-backs, I am able to- look confidently ahead to see Taranaki develop more and more as the years go by. Our progress has been continuous and genuine and its effect is demonstrated here at our A. and P. shows in no mean way. I wish the association every success on this its 21st birthday.” The weather improved considerably in the morning, and, in consequence, the attendance was very good. All enjoyed the various attractions and spent an enjoyable day, despite the sloppy conditions of the ground. The ladies’ committee controlling the luncheon room did good business and performed a very useful function for the association. Further awards were:
