Hearing, a crash of glass at the front door of her home in Burnley -suburb in the early morning, Mrs Wliitington called out to her husband: “Quick, dad; here’s somebody trying to break in. He has a revolver.’ Her husband, William Whitington, seized his son’s gun and fired through the ieadlights. An unknown man fell dead at the front doorstep. He had no revolver or housebreaking implements in his possession. His body awaits identification.
